Cape Town to Victoria Falls

 

Day 1: Your journey begins with a pre-departure meeting alongside your fellow travellers and crew, followed by a group dinner in the V&A Waterfront precinct.
Day 2: After collecting our bikes, we set out on a brief introductory ride to familiarise ourselves. Leaving Cape Town, we are soon in the stunning Cederberg’s, a dramatic region of spectacular mountains, valleys and wild rock formations. We visit the amazing San Bushman rock art site and incredible Stadsaal Caves before arriving at Clanwilliam, our overnight stop.
Day 3: Departing Clanwilliam we cross the spectacular Pakhuis Pass and hit the dirt once again as we cross the desolate yet stunning landscape of the Bokkeveld Plateau eventually arriving in the quirky town of Nieuwoudtville. We visit an amazing collection of hundreds of motorcycles stuffed inside a dusty shed before continuing to Springbok for our last night in South Africa
Day 4: Crossing into Namibia we follow the orange River lined with vineyards before entering a breathtaking world of stunning desertscapes. We can enjoy a swim in the Ai Ais natural hot spring oasis before riding further north into the Ai Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, home to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on earth.
Day 5: A pre-dawn start will see us witness a beautiful sunrise over the mighty Fish River Canyon. From here it’s a spectacular ride, keeping an eye out for giraffe, zebra & oryx, as we ride further north visiting Helmeringhausen for lunch then onto the wonderful Burgsdorf Guest Farm.
Day 6: Leaving the hospitality of Burgsdorf we visit the extraordinary Duwasib Castle before riding into the world renown Namib – Naukluft National Park, a national park of scenic superlatives. It’s extremely remote out here with epic sunsets and star laden skies, a magic place.
Day 7: It’s a pre-dawn start allowing us time to get into the national park to watch towering sand dunes glow red in the first light of day. We will visit the Dunes where we will enjoy a picnic breakfast then continue onto the otherworldly Deadvlei, a remarkable landscape of 1000 year old trees set in a dry pan amongst towering red dunes.
Day 8: Our first stop today is the bakery in the incredibly remote Solitaire, this bakery is renowned for its apple pies! We cross the Tropic of Capricorn enroute to the Atlantic Ocean at Walvis Bay where we will most likely witness flocks of pink flamingos before reaching the town of Swakopmund for our overnight stay.
Day 9: We follow the Atlantic for 70ks / 45mi visiting the wreck of the Zelia before turning east away from the coast to Uis. We enter a region populated by the Herero and Himba tribes and will encounter these peoples as they sell their wares trackside in the harsh desert environment. Over overnight stop is the wonderful Vingerklip Lodge in the Namib desert with its remarkable restaurant located on the very edge of an escarpment.
Day 10: We take the back tracks through privately owned lands, opening and closing gates, to Outjo for another superb apple pie bakery. More dirt as we turn north, bound for one of the most renown game parks in Africa, Etosha National Park.
Day 11: We get up early and enjoy a magnificent morning game drive in Etosha National Park. We shall be in open 4wds with experienced guides where we may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and a plethora of other species, this is the quintessential African experience.
Day 12: Dragging ourselves away from Etosha we continue due north where we will see numerous traditional villages that eke out an existence from the sparse forests the abound. Our overnight stop is a wonderful lodge on the banks of the Kavango River, the other side of which lies Angola.
Day 13: We enter the Caprivi Strip, a former gun running corridor during the Angolan war decades prior. Our destination today is the remote Mudumu National Park, home to large numbers of elephants and hippos. We spend a night in an accommodation highlight, Lianshulu Lodge spectacularly located over a hippo filled river where elephants wander through at night.
Day 14: Leaving Namibia, we cross into Botswana and ride, slowly, through an active national park, it’s not uncommon to wait for elephants as they cross the road in front of us. We reach Kasane on the banks of the mighty Chobe River where we shall enjoy a spectacular sunset cruise on the Chobe, witnessing elephants as they come down to drink in the evening, hippos, crocs and water buffalo to name a few species, it’s a remarkable way to end a day.
Day 15: We will take a game drive into the unspoilt splendour of the Chobe National Park, in open safari vehicles, to witness the bush come alive with some of the highest density of game of any park in all of Africa. The rest of the day can be spent relaxing at our lodge of wandering the innumerable craft markets in Kasane.
Day 16: We cross into Zimbabwe at the remote Pandamatenga border that sees an average of five cars per day. It’s a thrilling ride through the unfenced Matetsi Game Reserve where we may see elephants, giraffe & kudu, completely unused to vehicles, it’s the Africa of old. We eventually ride into Victoria Falls mid-afternoon.
Day 17: We start the day off with a visit the one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the incomparable Victoria Falls. We will walk along the edge of the falls with numerous scenic points giving us incredible views of Mosi oa Tunya, the smoke that thunders.
