Notes from the Saddle – Australia Encompassed 2013 – Ayers Rock Back to News List

The Australia Encompassed Motorcycle Tour group celebrate making it to beautiful Ayers Rock. This amazing tour is now halfway through…..who wants to join us next year?

A relatively short ride saw the group arrive into the spectacular Wartarrka National Park that is best known for Kings Canyon, a few beers were enjoyed at the Thirsty Dingo Pub before we all witnessed a stunning “outback” sunset. The following morning was spent walking the rim of Kings Canyon, a landscape of soaring cliffs, River Red Gums  and amazing oasis of ferns and pools. Kings Canyon is often referred to as Australia’s Grand Canyon!

A 303ks / 189ml ride had us entering the famed Uluru National Park but not before mistaking the awesome Mt Connor as “the rock” as so often happens. A quick afternoon swim in the Outback Pioneer Resort pool then it was off to witness one of natures finest spectacles, the changing colours of Uluru, (Ayers Rock), at sunset. We came prepared and quickly had the champagne and cheese platter etc set up on a picnic table as we watched the rock change from a bright orange to a deep purple in the space of 30 minutes, as one client put it “who would have ever thought I would be here having a Champagne watching the sun set at Ayers Rock”.

For those who were enthusiastic enough, the following morning a, pre dawn ride was taken to witness sunrise over Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and an energetic walk throughout the Valley of the Winds, others climbed the rock while others enjoyed being up close and personal as they walked the entire base of the rock before visiting the amazing Cultural Centre for lunch.

No doubt everyone shall be riding out to the rock for another sunset tonight, two times in your life isn’t nearly enough, what a spectacular sight!
